Okay.  That title may have been a bit misleading.  The NuSpine version of 7 Minutes in Heaven is referring to the time you get to spend on our HydroTherapy tables after your treatment!  It is basically a massage to relax your muscles after your adjustment and nearly everyone that comes through a NuSpine falls in love with them.  Dr. Hedlund takes offense to it, but some even say it’s their favorite part of the experience!

The patient lies back completely onto the table. Just under the surface is a mattress filled with heated water. A pump propels the warm water towards the patient through hydro-jets. The pressure of the water against the patient’s body provides a very effective deep tissue massage. The combination of flotation, heat and massage produces therapeutic effects.

Water – Being a “waterbed” as many call it, when the body is placed on the water mattress, there is minimal strain on the weight bearing joints. Few, if any muscles are required to hold the body up or in position. This helps the patient’s body relax resulting in an increased physiologic response to treatment.

Heat – Heat is evenly conducted through the skin and into the muscles and soft tissues of the body. The heat expands blood vessels, increases blood flow and lymphatic circulation, increases metabolism and has a sedative effect.

Massage – Trigger points in the muscles induce a cycle of spasm, pain, tension, weakness and limited range of motion. As the massage works a pressure point, the muscle tension yields to the pressure of the water enabling the fibers to elongate and relax for the blood to flow freely and toxins to be released and eliminated. Stimulating these “pressure points” triggers the release of endorphins. These neurochemicals relieve pain. As the pain subsides the muscles relax, enabling your manual therapies to be more effective.

If you haven’t been in to a NuSpine clinic to experience these HydroTherapy beds, I think it’s about time!  If you have, leave us a comment below letting us know how you liked them! Come see us and complete your new patient forms at www.nuspinechiropractic.com
